Laurel School District is incredibly proud to share that Mrs. Donna Ward, Delaware’s reigning Educational Support Professional of the Year, was invited to address members of the Delaware General Assembly today, speaking before both the House and Senate.
A proud Laurel graduate and lifelong Bulldog, Mrs. Ward used her new platform to advocate for something deeply important to communities like ours: the urgent need to reinvent Delaware’s school funding system so that property-poor districts are not left fighting simply to survive.
Mrs. Ward spoke passionately about the reality facing districts like Laurel — where students deserve the same opportunities as every child in Delaware, yet local funding capacity looks dramatically different from wealthier communities. While programs like Opportunity Funding are appreciated, they are not enough to solve the long-standing inequities built into the current system.
Today, Donna Ward did more than represent Laurel School District. She represented every educator, support staff member, student, and family who believes a child’s opportunities should not depend on their zip code or property values.
We are grateful for her leadership, her courage, and her unwavering love for Laurel.

Dr. Larrimore and Laurel School Board Member, Kim Ralph, delivered cupcakes to all of our schools to show their appreciation for all of our staff.
