Last week, Laurel High School FFA Advisors Matt Wood and Sydney Simmons accompanied six LHS students--Brandon Rife, Kassidy Hearn, Joey Nowotny, Arely Arriaga-Gonzalez, Brayden Hearn, and Briana Spradlin--to the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. During its time in Indianapolis, the students visited the booths of more than 120 colleges and businesses in the Expo center, attended general convention sessions, student leadership workshops and toured numerous agribusiness operations (the fish farm was their favorite). Additionally, LHS students got the chance to meet some of the 60,000 FFA members from across the U.S. Furthermoret, our Laurel students were able to see a fellow Delaware FFA member, Jackson Sylvester from the Lake Forest chapter, named as the National FFA Secretary for the 2021-2022 year--one of only a few from Delaware to ever receive one of the six national offices.
But despite the all the fun, our LHS FFA students were also laser-focused on the work at hand. Laurel placed 4th nationally in the Division IV Plant Systems Agriscience Fair, and 14th nationally in the Division III Plant Systems Agriscience Fair, respectfully taking home a Gold and Bronze emblem.
