Laurel School District Welcomes Home Eric Stancell

The Laurel School District is excited to announce the hiring of Eric Stancell as our new Supervisor of Equity and Engagement. Eric is a proud Laurel graduate and is happy to return to his hometown in his new role.

Prior to his arrival, Eric worked as a State Program Manager for the Delaware Department of Education. In this position, Eric supervised three State programs including Parent and Family Engagement, Migrant Education, and Title IV Federal funding.

Eric began his educational career as a teacher at Alexis I. du Pont High School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. Thereafter, he was promoted and served successfully as a school administrator in the Red Clay, Christina, and Lake Forest School Districts.

Personally, Eric loves spending time with Melanie, his wife of 23 years, and his daughter Briana, an educator in the Colonial School District. During his free time, Eric enjoys traveling, golfing, and attending sporting events.

Professionally, Eric knows the importance of getting a good education and believes all students should be provided the necessary tools to maximize their success. He believes there is no greater profession than being an educator as we are “teaching our students how to be successful in life which we hope will lead to more successful families and communities.”

The Supervisor of Equity and Engagement works with the Superintendent to lead the district's efforts to build a culture of equity and stakeholder engagement that is welcoming and affirming for all students, families, employees, and the community, while helping the district maintain a sharp focus on closing achievement and access gaps among students.
